Damn, I’m on a roll this month! At last, after months of being a blocked writer, I’ve finally managed to start being creative again!
Here. In My Head. #11: A 24-Hour Zine
24 pages, 8″ x 3″, printed on pink paper – 50p
This zine was created for the 24 Hour Zine Thing, a challenge that requires zinesters to create an entire zine, from conception to final product, in 24 hours straight. The challenge can be done on any day within International Zine Month (July).
I stuck to the challenge rigidly – everything was written and assembled within 24 consecutive hours – and there are parts of the zine that have turned out great, and parts that I’m not so happy with. But I am proud that I managed to complete an entire zine in 24 hours straight (well, minus a 7 hour sleep so technically it was 17 hours).
I ended up writing about being creative, self-esteem and self-empowerment, my contraceptive implant, things that annoy me, and things that brighten up my day (a mixed bag, I know!). Two things I learned about myself when creating this zine:
1. I can write long rambling pieces (over 1000 words), and short pithy lists, but nothing in between.
2. No matter how hard I try, I can’t stay awake for more than 17 consecutive hours (unless I’m out drinking!).
